We will be creating a vibrant community market where tradition meets uniqueness, with quality goods, great value, and a welcoming place to shop, eat, and gather.
The new market will provide a significantly improved experience for customers and traders alike with a wider choice of stalls and facilities in a corner unit within the Barons Quay shopping centre.
This new market will replace the existing market within Weaver Square, a short distance away, which will be demolished and replaced with new homes as part of an ambitious plan to regenerate the town centre.
This will be the biggest investment in Northwich Market since 1960s and the new market will benefit from an investment of around £1.8 million to enable a town centre market to remain open – and create a market ready for the future where current and future traders can thrive.
We are working with existing Northwich Market traders to offer space for them in the new market to provide continuity, and bring in new traders to ensure the market can expand and flourish in its new location. At a time where other councils are withdrawing from markets due to funding pressures, the Council remains committed to them and to Northwich.
We currently expect the new market will open sometime during 2026, and the existing market in Weaver Square will remain open until just before the new market opens.

The new market has been designed for Northwich today and ready to evolve for the Northwich of tomorrow.
We want to create a vibrant community market where tradition meets uniqueness, with quality goods, great value, and a welcoming place to shop, eat, and gather.
We also want to provide a new social place, a focal point in the town for sharing stories and raising awareness of community activities, cultural and heritage information.
The new market will include bespoke designed fixtures and facilities to provide a significantly improved experience for customers and traders with a wider choice of stalls, whilst complementing the existing retailers, leisure and food and drink options already available in Barons Quay.
Evidence from the UK and around the world has proven that markets with traditional stalls alongside food and beverage stalls plus an al fresco space are one of the most effective ways to increase footfall and regenerate a town centre.
The market’s branding has been inspired by the town’s rich heritage of waterways, celebrating its industrial past and vibrant community.
Central to the design is a reference to the two iconic River Weaver swing bridges, symbols of history, strength and connection.
The bridges’ distinctive vertical and diagonal iron girders are cleverly used to form the letter “N” at the heart of the logo, creating a bold and meaningful visual identity that reflects both tradition and progress. Look carefully when you cross the bridges and see the rows of Ns!
The colour palette takes inspiration from the Cheshire countryside, the town’s rivers and shipbuilding which was part of the town’s industrial heritage until recently, as was the ICI plant. This is complemented with reference to Northwich’s more recent history which includes the popular annual Pina Colada festival.
